The entries can be art quilts or traditional quilts that speak to the theme. Any techniques—piecing, appliqué, embroidery and/or manipulated fabric, etc. may be used. Twelve quilts will be selected by the jury to be part of the special exhibit.
General entry specifics: Each entrant may submit up to two works to their local quilt shop. Approximately 80% of each work (60”x 60” quilt) must feature FreeSpirit HomeMade fabric by Tula Pink. We ask that each entrant's finished work include some application of Aurifil Thread too. Please ask that they be specific about the thread color and weights used. Each quilt shop will then select one quilt to submit to FreeSpirit.
Size of entries: Each work should be no smaller than 60 inches (152.4cm) square (if a quilt is close to these dimensions but does not quite meet the requirements, the entrant may still enter their work). Each entry must have a 4” (10cm) finished sleeve or casing sewn to the top back edge of the quilt. Sleeves should be secured with stitching at the top and bottom edge of the sleeve. A cloth label with the entrant’s name, address, email address and telephone number must be securely sewn to the back of the quilt.
Jury: A jury of experts, including Tula Pink, will select the twelve quilts. The jury’s decision is final. The organizers reserve the right to decide about the quilts for the exhibition upon seeing the actual quilts in person. The organizers reserve the right to refuse any work that does not match the slides submitted to the jury.
ENTERING THE COMPETITION
Who may enter: The entries may be the work of more than one person as long as proper credit is given to all involved in the actual completion of the quilt. The person entering the quilt must have been involved in making the quilt. Limit 2 entries per person or group to their local quilt shop. Full-time employees of any associated Jaftex divisions, Aurifil Thread or Quilts, Inc. are not eligible.
One first place winner will earn a prize package of over $10,000 including a BERNINA 570QE Special Edition by Tula Pink sewing machine, Tula Pink Fabric from FreeSpirit, an assortment of Tula Pink Aurifil thread collections and other related sewing and quilting products.
